Strategic Prediction of Triggers (SPOT) is a collaboration project with a care provider. I worked alongside nursing, graphic design and computer science students in order to develop the system. SPOT is based on a problem the team identified; which is that it is hard to predict effectively when a service user in residential care might have an episode of problematic behaviour. Our system addresses this through a note taking application that replaces paper carers notes. The system looks for deviations form a service users usual routine and pairs this behavioural episodes. The result is a prediction model whereby patterns of behaviour that could be problematic to both careers and service user are flagged and able to be acted upon. SPOT has two user interfaces, one for care staff to record notes and a second for service users. This allows for service users to be empowered and add to their own care record in an accessible way via a personalised interface.
